We’re quickly closing in on Christmas. And even the earliest shopping birds inevitably have some last-minute gifts on the list.

I’ve long been a fan of the Misfit Shine activity tracker. And the newly-released Flash, which sells for $50, is the most affordable of its kind I’ve seen to date. It functions much the same as the Shine, except that it’s polycarbonate, you push it down to sync (versus automatic), and it is has a slightly less waterproof rating. But in terms of functionality, it accomplishes all of the same tasks, including tracking your steps, distance traveled, calories burned, and sleep patterns, lets you set goals, and keep track of progress using the complementary smartphone app.

The working woman will appreciate this handy device, which is great for organizing files and folders in the office, and for personal crafts – label everything from kitchen jars, to the kid’s homework and toys, and garage shelves. This hockey puck-sized device is perfect for the multitasking traveling businesswoman. Pop it into the briefcase or purse,then pull out in a hotel to create a secure Wi-Fi hotspot for connecting all Wi-Fi devices. Typically, a hotel will charge per device connection. This way, you pay one fee, and can connect a laptop, smartphone, tablet, and essentially any other 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi device that’s needed to get work done remotely. There’s even encryption technology so you can set a password to ensure the folks in the room next door aren’t hopping onto your connection. $25

MiPowPowerTube 2600 Portable Charger

The worst feeling is being away from home or the office and having your smartphone’s battery indicator move into the dreaded red zone. It gets even worse if you forget your charging cable at home. What I particularly like about this 2,600 mAh charger is that you can grab one with a built-in micro USB or Apple Lightning connector. Charge it up, then plug it directly into your device for on-the-go charging – no cable needed. It does also have a USB output for charging other devices as well, with a cable. It comes in 10 colour options – $35 for the microUSB version, or you’ll have to go slightly over budget for the $55 Lightning version.

Google Chromecast

Whether for presentations in the office, Netflix TV show binge watching at home, or playing movies for the kids at a hotel, this super-cool device is a perfect gift. It’s so simple to set up – plug it into a TV’s HDMI port and into a wall AC outlet for power, download the app, then follow the setup instructions. Once done, you can “cast” content from a variety of sources to the big screen TV, including the Chrome Web browser, Netflix, YouTube, Crackle, and soon the Rogers/Shaw shomi video streaming service. The best part? It’s just $40.
