SHANGHAI – From HP’s perspective at its Global Influencer Summit in Shanghai, it seems that a world without print of any kind would be a lifeless, colourless existence devoid of any livable character, and while there is anecdotal evidence supporting that, it’s still not clear what this all means for the average consumer.

Being the latest tablet to enter the fray against the iPad, HP’s TouchPad is an intriguing player, largely because of webOS, the mobile operating system running the thing. The hardware, while unspectacular, is more than passable for a tablet that is portable and functional, but it’s webOS that is the real star here, and it shows real promise on what it can do long-term. For now though, the slick and intuitive design and interface is still not on par with where the iPad 2 sits.

HP has officially entered the tablet wars with its TouchPad, while also going after smartphone consumers with both the Pre3 and Veer handsets. Canadian availability is still unannounced, but there is a possibility that all three will have launched in the Great White North by the summertime.
