New York, NY – HTC has released its latest entry into the smartphone flagship market. The evolution of last year’s celebrated HTC One, the ‘All New One’ or M8 is aiming to push the boundaries for Android handsets.
Launched at an exclusive media event in New York today, the All New One has many of the features that made the HTC One the best smartphone in the market as per Mobile World Congress, this includes a powerful quad core processor, impressive camera technology, powerful BoomSound dual speakers, HTC Zoe video editing software and the impressive all-aluminum and gorilla glass build.
Launched today, the HTC One (M8) will cost $229.99 for a two-year contracts and $649.99 outright.
Documents from Rogers note that the new HTC One features a large a 5-inch display (1080×1920), runs Android KitKat (4.4.2) and will be the first to feature HTC’s Sense 6.0 user interface.
HTC has also listened to users and given them features that they want. This includes storage expansion through microSD card. Processor is a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB onboard internal memory.
A new dual-camera allows users to focus after they’ve taken a photo, this is similar to the Lytro camera. This makes it possible to focus on various aspects of a photo after it was shot. The new HTC One also gets a 5 megapixel front-facing camera.
Leaky Ship
The HTC One M8 may be celebrated for being the best handset HTC’s produced but it will also be long remembered as one of the most leaked devices in the mobile industry. Starting with a video of a pre-release device by an amateur blogger (who, reportedly took the prototype HTC One M8 from his parents, who were HTC employees), there have been various images and videos of the device which has apparently been ready to ship for some time.
Rogers actually pre-empted the launch event by putting up a product page complete with all the specs a full-day before the launch event which WhatsYourTech.ca covered live in New York.
