While mothers should be celebrated all year ’round, Mother’s Day is a specific day of the year to pamper the mothers in your life. This might mean breakfast in bed, a special day of R&R, and a thoughtful gift. Moms of all ages love tech, and there are some great tech gift options worth considering to surprise her with something out of the ordinary.
Blendjet 2 Portable Blender
I had the chance to try out the Blendjet 2 portable blender and I was thoroughly impressed with its power and versatility for a battery-operated blender that’s no larger than a standard water bottle. For moms who are often on the run, who work out, or who love to travel, it’s a convenient option. Place the ingredients inside, whether that’s frozen or fresh fruit and vegetables, juice, milk or milk alternative, protein powders (or Blendjet’s own Jetpacks) along with ice, blend for just 20 seconds, and drink. She can take the blender in the car with her to drink right from the container that has a screw-on lid and get up to 15 blends per charge. Grab the convenient case and she can pack it in her luggage to make smoothies in a hotel room, at the spa, or while traveling for work. It can be used for blending ingredients for homemade dips and sauces as well. At a regular price of US$132, it’s often on sale for half price on the website and ships to Canada.
Fitbit Versa 3 Smartwatch
If you’re thinking of getting mom a smartwatch and fitness tracker, you can’t go wrong with the Fitbit Versa 3. Boasting all the typical Fitbit features, including advanced sleep tracking, menstrual cycle tracking, steps, calorie burn, 24/7 heart rate monitoring, and more, everything can be managed from the sizable screen and intuitive Fitbit app. The stylish watch, which comes in a variety of colours with various interchangeable band options, offers up to six days of battery life per charge. In addition to the basics, you get features like built-in GPS so mom can go for a morning run and leave her phone at home while still tracking her route, Daily Readiness Score so she knows the best time to work out (with a Fitbit Premium subscription – it comes with a six-month free trial), Active Zone Minutes so she can keep track of progress as she exercises, voice assistance, smartphone notifications, and more. Plus, it’s on sale right now for $230, down from the regular price of $300. You can also enter our contest for the chance to win one for yourself or as a late gift for mom.
Sonos Roam SL Portable Bluetooth Speaker
Mom will love the handy Sonos Roam SL portable Bluetooth speaker she can take with her on adventures, use in the home office, or even take to the backyard to listen to tunes while she tends to her garden. It’s just $199 and is dust and waterproof, so she can even use it poolside or bring it to the beach. It connects both to Wi-Fi when in range at home or via Bluetooth while on the go so she gets the best of both worlds. While it doesn’t have a mic (you can upgrade to the Sonos Roam for that) it’s the more affordable option of the two. With 10 hours of battery life, the speaker will easily last through a full workday of listening.
Roku Streaming Stick
Whenever my girlfriends and I have a mom’s weekend, whether it’s at the spa or a fun weekend in New York City, one of us brings along a streaming stick we can pop into the hotel room TV to binge watch a girlie show from one of our streaming service subscriptions. Mom would love the Roku Streaming Stick 4K ($70) which is blazingly fast and comes with a voice remote with TV controls for easy operation. Plug it into any TV with an HDMI 2.0b port, sign into your streaming service subscription, and enjoy. If mom has a ladies’ weekend planned for Mother’s Day, some great shows worth watching include Love is Blind (Netflix), The Flight Attendant (Crave), and Life and Beth (Disney+). Want the chance to win a Roku Streaming Stick 4K for yourself, or in time for mom on Mother’s Day? Check out our simple to enter contest, which runs through to May 5.
Shark HyperAIR Hair Dryer with IQ 2-in-1 Concentrator
While every mom might covet the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, it’s a pretty hefty investment at $500. You can get the Shark HyperAIR for less than half the price at just $230, and it has some pretty impressive features. The company’s HyperAIR IQ technology intelligently combines high-velocity heated air with ionized air, which Shark says results in quick drying without any heat damage. Ideal for all types of hair, including straight, wavy, and curly, there are a variety of attachments you can consider grabbing as well, including a styling brush, and curl diffuser. Skullcandy Push Active True Wireless Earbuds
Even if mom already has a favourite pair of wireless earbuds, there’s no harm in having a spare. And the Skullcandy Push Active true wireless earbuds, at just $100, are a pretty affordable option to keep packed in the gym bag, travel carry-on, or drawer at the home office. Mom might quickly find these becoming her new favourites, however, thanks to features like the generous 44 hours of battery life (when using the charging case), sweat- and water-resistance, and Tile integration for easily finding lost or stolen buds. She can use her voice not only to control song playback but also queue up Spotify and activate the Stay-Aware Mode when she’s going for a trail run, for example, and wants some situational awareness. Voice control can also be used to trigger the phone camera to take a selfie and she can even share audio with a running buddy. Cool prize to win for Mom!
Kensington UV Monitor Stand with UVC Sanitization Compartment
For the moms who still work at the office, the Kensington UV Monitor Stand ($320) is a thoughtful gift she will appreciate. It uses LED light to disinfect keyboards, mice, trackballs, smartphones, and other devices she might have on her desk. Place the monitor on top and put small devices in the storage compartment to be sanitized at the end of beginning of every day, or after returning from lunch. It is designed to safely remove up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in just 10 minutes. Plus, it has the advantage of raising the monitor up to eye level.
We’re giving one away along with the Orbit Wireless Trackball with Scroll Ring (which can also be sanitized inside the stand!) valued at $98 in a prize pack for a total value of $418.
