Sony Canada recently kicked of the tour of the UX truck right here in downtown Toronto. Their fully-customized long bed truck was fully loaded with the latest Sony products.
Parked right out of the Sony Centre for Performing Arts, the UX Truck was an air conditioned oasis in the middle of this week’s ‘feels like 40’ heatwave. Walking into the UX Truck was like being transported into a mobile Sony Style store with all the latest gear in full-display.
Aside from the latest tablets, smartphones and PCs, Sony even has a theatre room featuring their latest 4K HDTVs as well as their latest soundbar surround speakers.
The unifying theme for Sony displayed throughout the UX Truck was NFC or Near Field Communication, the technology which enables devices to communicate with each other simply by tapping them together.
Michael Neujahr, Sony Canada’s National Manager for Event Marketing and Training toured us through the various stations featuring the convenience of NFC technology which now ships on many new Sony products.
We received a demo of how the latest Sony mobile devices can be used with their NFC-enabled speakers with a mere touch. A wireless and convenient way to share music and audio, NFC is even available on some of Sony’s headsets.
NFC is also coming to Sony HDTVs and will allow for various second-screen experiences when paired with compatible tablets and smartphones. The latest Sony Xperia Z Tablet has an IR blaster which can be used as a remote control, it can also access cable and TV program information which offloads the often burdensome chore of navigating through TV channels to a tablet or smartphone.
4K HD technology, which offers ultra-high definition images which Sony is heavily invested in, was also demoed in the UX Truck. A 65-inch Bravia 4K TV was impressive to watch and hear, specially with Sony’s new soundbar and subwoofer combo. Sony doesn’t just produce 4K TVs and projectors, it also makes the cameras that shoot 4K content and owns the studios that create the content to be played.
Consumers who invest in 4K technology shouldn’t worry about the lack of content says Neujahr since Sony’s 4K TV sets will upscale existing content into an approximation of 4K. A number of Sony titles on Blu-Ray, while a number of movies like Will Smith’s After Earth are already being shot in the 4K format.
The Sony UX truck proved to be an innovative as well as refreshing way to receive demos of upcoming products and the technologies that keep everything connected.
