As far as flagship cameraphones go, Nokia’s Lumia 1020 with its 41 megapixel camera is considered the device to beat. It is now coming to Canada on Rogers, Telus and Black’s.
Nokia has always strived for great camera phone experiences. The Nokia N95, the N8, the Lumia 920 and the PureView 808 are just some of the standout handsets that pushed boundaries and pixels in the camera department.
For their new Lumia 1020, coming soon to Canadian carriers Telus and Rogers as well as photo supplier Black’s, it is the first time the revolutionary smartphone will be available outside the US and UK.
The Lumia 1020 continues where previous Windows 8-powered Lumia phones left off. This time around users can expect a 4.5-inch display with a 1280 x 768 resolution. A dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage space.
The big feature is the camera which was previously seen in the rather bulbous PureView 808 Symbian smartphone. That sensor has been streamlined to fit the Lumia 1020’s relatively slim shape. The powerful 41 megapixel camera bundled with the multi-element Carl Zeiss lens and the built-in stabilization, will result in extremely sharp and detailed photos.
As Nokia’s white paper explains it, “the 41MP sensor can capture 34MP and 38MP image files at 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios respectively. In addition to the 38MP and 34MP full-resolution images, the Lumia 1020 camera captures 5MP oversampled images so that every pixel in the 5MP image has been created using the data from up to seven pixels of the sensor.
