WIND Mobile plans leaked?

Now that Globalive Wireless has been allowed entry into the Canadian mobile market thanks to intervention from the federal government, the question on everyone’s mind is when we can expect the new carrier WIND Mobile to launch. It seems this new chapter in Canada’s mobile story could start as early as next week! This is great news for Canadian mobile subscribers who’ve been patiently waiting this, er, second wind.

Less than three hours after the announcement, WIND Mobile internet tipster “Windsider” put up what appears to be leaked plans pending announcement next week. Find an extract of Windsider’s plans at the bottom of the post.

The first thing that we’re noticing is that the rumored mobile plans by WIND Mobile makes similar plans offered by the three big wireless telcos seem like an absolute steal! Keep in mind that the legitimacy of these prices, plans have not been confirmed by WIND Mobile and maybe be purely speculative at this point.

WIND Mobile wants to simplify life for the average consumer with just three plans to choose from. That’s right, just THREE! No more browsing through a book-size plan catalog with confusing “mega plans” and “early-morning-somethings”. We love it! Continue.

Incoming Text messages, they’re all free with WIND Mobile whether you’ve subscribed to a text messaging plan or not. Billing incoming text messages could be the single most annoying thing a wireless carrier could do, and all three big players do just that. As for outgoing messages, even if you exceed the 50 provided text  messages with the “Chat” and “Always Talk” plans, you are only billed at 10c per message. That’s a good 5c lower than the closest price charged by the competition. This is ignoring the fact that the extra $10 you pay when upgrading to the “Always Shout” plan (which gives you unlimited incoming and outgoing messages) from “Always Talk” is still less than any competing text messaging add-on in the market today.

Finally it’s all about the data! We our love data and so do all the smartphones that have been coming out lately with apps, video streaming and what not. This is really where WIND Mobile becomes a game changer. It looks like the company might be the first to offer unlimited data in Canada, and what a wait it has been. At $35/mo. for unlimited data (including tethering!), it leaves the closest competing plan from Rogers, $85/mo. for 5GB, in the dust.

We don’t expect the big three; Rogers, Telus and Bell to go quietly into the night, or at least in three years when even the most recent subscribers would be free from their freshly inked contracts. However it’s bound be an interesting week or two for mobile in Canada. To our wireless behemoths I say, the ball is truly in your court now.
