To help push all those pixels, Apple has introduced a new A5X processor that has quad core graphics to speed things along. The new iPad also supports various 3G and 4G data infrastructures including the LTE networks currently in use by Bell, Rogers and Telus which are three of the carriers who will support the device at launch.

Other features include a 5 megapixel iSight camera similar to the iPhone 4S with advanced optics for taking stunning pictures and recording full HD video. Backside illumination allows you to take great photos in low-light conditions and a new video image stabilization feature removes the bumps and shakes typically seen when filming with a hand-held device.

The tool for the Post PC Era

“We’re innovating in the space we first created,” Apple CEO Tim Cook explained as he compared some apps between the iPad and its competing tablets running Google’s Android platform.

Cook stressed that the new iPad brings users to a Post-PC era where what we used to do on computers can now be done on a powerful tablet.

Apple illustrated this by updating their iWork, iMovie, GarageBand apps and introducing a new iPad optimized iPhoto which brings prosumer photo editing capabilities to the new tablet.

The new camera, supporting apps and the innovative Retina Display make the iPad a viable content creation device. Apps like Autodesk Sketchbook Ink (exclusive to iOS) show how artists can use that Retina Display to create awe inspiring artwork in a very short amount of time.

iPad 2 for a wider audience

Apple’s other surprise at the packed by invitation media event was that the iPad 2 would be offered at a reduced price of $399 which puts it smack in the range of a number of competing Android tablets. The lower priced iPad 2 is also a good sign for students and businesses who want a capable and proven tablet solution.

Also announced was an updated AppleTV for $109, which can play back 1080p HD video and serves as a companion to the iPad enabling users to share video, photos and music on their HDTVs.
