There has been a long list of initiatives aimed at getting more women involved in the S.T.E.M. fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). And it’s no surprise that getting girls interested at a young age can help encourage them to pursue such careers once the time comes. A new toy doll from MGA Entertainment Canada has an interesting idea on how to go about this.

U of T Breaks Records for Female Faculty in Engineering

he number of female faculty members at U of T has more than doubled over the past eight years, reaching 44 in 2014, up from just 21 in 2006. In total, 17% of faculty members are women – three points higher than the Ontario average, and four points higher than the average for all of Canada.

MasterCard has declared November 8 National Girls Learning Code Day in Canada, with plans to offer free coding classes across the country for girls and their parents. The global payments company is joining a growing list of firms shedding a spotlight on the lack of women in the technology field, and looking to change the situation through programs that target the younger generation.
