Though rumoured for months, RIM has officially announced that its upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, launching on April 19, will also include support for applications designed for the Android mobile operating system.

Only days after releasing its vaunted Motorola Atrix smartphone, Motorola announced today that it will be launching its XOOM Wi-Fi tablet in Canada, with a release date on April 8, and Telus is confirmed as the exclusive carrier for the device.

Apple’s engineers are apparently entirely focused on finishing the latest iteration, which should become available in Canada this summer.

HP has officially entered the tablet wars with its TouchPad, while also going after smartphone consumers with both the Pre3 and Veer handsets. Canadian availability is still unannounced, but there is a possibility that all three will have launched in the Great White North by the summertime.
